Gold Bound - Wednesday, October 17, 2007

Well, we've exceeded expectations, and we are off to the gold division!

I'm looking forward to this change, and the chance to play some matches against higher competition. It can only make us better soccer players.

Game vs Peninsula - Sunday, October 14, 2007

Excellent game today, we were lucky to come away with 1-0. It shows how important it is to make good with the chances you get. We had many opportunities, and we had some great goal keeping to keep us in the game. Nicole, Jess and Meghan deserve some applause for stopping some break aways. I thought that we played a hard game, and made some great passes. The peninsula side should be commended for their hard work as well. I can not believe how many of our shots they blocked! They really wanted to win that game, and I thought we did well playing against an aggressive, fast team. It is a similar style to playing gold I believe, and was good competition.

Game Update - Saturday, September 22, 2007
We played a strong game against Cordova Bay today. We scored some beautiful goals and kept the play in their end for the whole game. Excellent teamwork all around. This was a team that gave us trouble last year, so it shows us how far we've come. Our final score was 7-0 after switching to 2-touch soccer in the second half (after 5 goals at half time).

First Game - Sunday, September 16, 2007

We came out of the gates a little shaky today, which is understandable, but it didn't take long for us to find our soccer feet. Within 15 minutes, we were up 3-0 by a nice corner from Emma, and some great passing up front with Liticia, Emma and Chelsea.

We then continued to dominate, and contain the play in their half. I saw lots of excellent things today. Jessica controlled her wing, and deeked many oncoming players to be dangerous on the right wing. Liticia and Meghan connected countless times with give-and-goes that left the Sooke players wondering where the ball had suddenly gone. The forwards constantly looked dangerous, and converted many of the chances we created. Marissa controlled the midfield along with Annachie, and the back four squashed all attacks quickly and in a controlled manner. Up front, we had numerous through balls from Liticia, Julie, Jessica, Emma and Chelsea. Their defense often got caught watching the ball, to disasterous results. The keepers did not have much to do, but I was really impressed with Sanja's attacking and smothering the ball in goal, which stopped their only real opportunity.

There are a couple areas we will improve, including positional play, offsides, and player marking, but overall every aspect of our team fired on all cylinders today, and played like a team who has been together for a year. Very impressive considering half of the players on the team are new!

Good work girls. Very exciting soccer! That is what I like.
